We are seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineerfor ourMarine Product Team focusing on trolling motors. The role is located at our headquarters in the Kansas Cityarea. We design and manufacture marine electronics from radars to chart plotters and from fish finders to trolling motors. (This is not a remote position; it is hybrid - 3 days in office/2 days at home).
Responsibilities
Other essential functions include:
Master CAD-user able to complete the most difficult tasks (we use Solidworks)
Complete complex mechanical designs
Mock up and test complex mechanical systems to verify compliance with design requirements
Good knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining, etc.
Specify test plans to validate very complex systems with complex performance requirements
Make estimates on moderately complex mechanical designs including: tooling, part cost, and design time
Excellent communication skills with the ability to drive process vendors to evaluate complex mechanical designs and understand the risk
Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Mechanical Engineers (1 & 2) on technologies, cost analysis, design techniques and problem solving process
Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques
Independently determines general approach and specific solutions to technical problems
Applies knowledge of production and operations issues as they relate to engineering
Leads explorations of new technologies
Overseas travel as required to Garmin's factories in Taiwan
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CAD software for completing complex mechanical system designs (prefer Solidworks)
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Electronic packaging design experience designing around electronics or motors
Desirable qualifications:
Experience in the design of mechanical systems such as drivetrains, linkages, actuators, robotics, and other mechanically complex systems with multiple sub-systems
Experience in designing for harsh environments
