Boeing Defense Space & Security has an exciting opportunity for a Software Design and Analysis Engineer to support the software development of electro-optical systems at the Starfire Optical Range, Kirtland AFB, NM.

This position supports the R&D mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities. Our site houses telescope research facilities ranging in size from 0.5m up to 3.5m with advanced optical systems. Starfire Optical Range is a world class research facility with recognized achievements, enabled by the quality, enthusiasm, and dedication of our entire team. Our team consists of engineers and technicians in all disciplines required to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, quantum systems to achieve research objectives.

This engineer would work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the development of electro-mechanical pointing and tracking control systems. The ideal candidate would assist with the documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.

**Position Responsibilities**

+ Develops and maintain code and integrate software components into a fully functional software system

+ Assists with test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met

+ Gathers information to support software project management

+ Documents deployed processes and tools and collect metrics

+ Supports software research and development projects

+ Troubleshoots basic software issues

+ Develops architectures to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms.

**This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.**

**This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.** A final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

**Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience)**

+ 3+ years of experience with object oriented software development (P3 5+ years)

+ 3+ years of experience with writing software for low level device interface control as well as graphical user interface applications (P3 5+ years)

+ 3+ years of experience with developing software for Windows and Linux systems (P3 5+ years)

+ 1+ years of coursework and/or experience in programming with Labview software

+ Must be willing to work variable shifts; including day, evening, night and weekends

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Preferred an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

+ Familiarity with PC104 and/or Arduino desired.

+ Experience with Racket/Scheme.

+ Experience with the development, test and evaluation of hardware and software required for electro-mechanical/optical control system implementation.

+ Experience with Telescopes and Adaptive optics.

+ Strong writing and presentation skills with experience communicating to senior decision-makers and technical audiences.

+ Effective in small team work environment with broad responsibilities and minimal oversight

**Typical Education/Experience**

P2

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
