Position Summary
The Sr. Network engineer will support complex projects and act as a primary technical resource responsible for accomplishing the engineering tasks associated with these projects. He/she will also act as the technical lead and project manager for smaller-scale projects, responsible for the completion of all related work on time and within budget.The engineer is also responsible for developing and maintaining internal engineering documents and procedures around network configuration, client configuration, network management, and service level design.
Essential Job Functions
The specific skills include:
Significant design and implementation experience with ROADM/DWDM/CWDM technologies
In-depth knowledge of DWDM and ROADM platforms from multiple vendors to include Ciena, Cisco, and/or Nokia.
Must have a thorough understanding of OTN, SONET, SDH, TDM, DWDM, and CWDM protocols and standards.
Must have familiarity with Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) standards and Ethernet standards.
Technical writing skills sufficient to support the team in the creation of design documents, procedures for engineers to follow, best practices, and technical diagrams.
Strong planning, time management, and organizational skills
Desire to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks with minimal direct supervision
Design and execute backbone network growth, reconfiguration, upgrade, and optimization projects
Commissioning of hardware in support of network growth and expansion
Complex network troubleshooting & support
The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity in accordance with the B3 principles
The individual must be detailed oriented and possess the desire and ability to work in a collaborative environment, occasionally in a mentorship role with less experienced team members.
Ability to perform duties outside of normal business hours as required
Education/Certifications
Bachelor's degree in a Science / Technology field or equivalent professional experience, education, and/or training
Experience/Minimum Requirements
4+ years of experience in telecommunications
Considerable experience in a service provider environment and carrier-grade engineering in an optical network.
Desired:
Technical certifications from Ciena or Nokia optical platforms
Direct experience on major platforms deployed in the Crown Castle Fiber network
Scripting and Automation in a JSON environment. Knowledge of bash, python, XML, YANG/NETCONF desired
Ability to work in a UNIX systems environment (BSD, Linux, Solaris, etc.)

Working Conditions:This role falls into our hybrid work model working in your assigned office approximately 60% of the time (3 days per week) and where you do your best work 40% (2 days per week). There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that requires up to 25% travel.
