SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Amtrak is well ahead on Cloud Maturity journey started in 2013. It runs significant number of Cloud Native mission critical applications with highest degree availability across three AWS Regions.

Senior principal Systems Engineer, Cloud is essentially a Hands-on Subject Matter Expert in AWS cloud platform who brings vision and execution to talented team of Cloud Engineers

Manage overall cloud infrastructure components including VPCs, Subnets, AZs, IGWs, VGWs, Routing Tables, Direct Connect, VIFs. Manage IAM Users, Roles, Policies for individual users and for projects. Monitor the AWS infrastructure to ensure Cloud Health is optimum. Responsible for overall day to day Cloud platform operations with Service Requests, Incidents, Problem Requests, Change Requests and ensure they are addressed timely manner.

Collaborate with Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, and Application Development teams to design, build, and operate multi-cloud services in AWS, and Microsoft Azure environments and delivery highly resilient, scalable, agile, and innovative solutions for business customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist in design and deploy application services to cloud based platforms including:

  • cloud adoption and migration plans

  • cloud application design

  • cloud security and network integration

  • cloud management and performance monitoring

• Develop and implement High-Availability/Resiliency strategies for Amtraks mission critical, cloud-based computing environments

• Deep understanding of cloud technologies and implementation experience.

• Keep up-to-date on cutting edge technology, standards, protocols and tools in areas relevant to the rapidly changing cloud environment at Amtrak

• Assist architects, developers in adoption of automation, Dev/Ops tool chains, and release management for Amtraks cloud eco-system.

• Experience in implementing Infrastructure As A Code using Terraform or Cloud Formation Templates highly preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Expert level knowledge of AWS Cloud Management include EC2, S3, VPC, Subnets, ELB, Elastic Beanstalk, Lambda, Kinesis, IAM Roles/Policies, SNS, SQS, RDS, EFS, EBS Storage, Elastic Cache, DynamoDB, Redshift, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Data pipeline, Multi-AZ design for HA etc.

• 10 + years of experience in diverse Information technology platforms

• 7+ years implementing cloud-based technology solutions and driving cloud services transformation initiatives

• 5+ years experience in development, integration and operations services in a 24x7 environment

• Demonstrated experience implementing Cloud/PaaS service projects and prior experience working with leading Cloud services companies (e.g., AWS, Azure)

• The successful candidate will have proven experience with:

• Demonstrated passion for in the moment troubleshooting and incident response of AWS or Azure cloud based eco-systems.

• Implement cloud native applications on AWS or Azure cloud.

• Ability to respond to high-severity issues on a 24x7 basis, if needed

• Ability to translate and communicate complex technical issues into language that collaborating teams can comprehend.

• Excellent team collaboration skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• AWS Cloud architecture certification

• Working experience of ServiceNow

• Hands-on experience in supporting Hybrid Cloud eco-systems. Response to technical issues surrounding cloud networks and infrastructure in very short window of time to minimize the downtime of mission critical systems.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
