SAIC is looking for a Technical Writer to support the Workplace and Collaboration Services (WCS) at NASA in Huntsville, Alabama.

 

Program Details:

The WCS Service Line supports the Agency Office of the Chief Information Office (OCIO). We oversee the portfolio of services and capabilities associated with the end-user services domain, which includes defining and executing overall strategy, roadmaps, standards, policies, investments, and projects.

 

The scope of the EUSO includes Agency-wide: End User Compute, Mobile, and Print Device Management, End User Software Management, email and calendaring (O365 and NOMAD), Business Productivity Services, Infrastructure Services, Enterprise Service Desk (ESD), Local Service Desks, End User Standards, Collaboration, Identity Credential and Access Management (ICAM) and IT Security. 

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • This vibrant and fast paced environment extends to a multitude of projects that require excellent communication and technical writing skills.

  • The successful technical writer will create communications and documentations required by project team members, stakeholders and customer senior leadership.

  • The Technical Writer determines the needs of end users of technical documentation.

  • Will support the Office Chief’s and Directors of WCS with special projects

  • Will study product samples and talk with product designers and developers.

  • Work with technical staff to make products easier to use and thus need fewer instructions.

  • Organize and writes supporting documents for programs, projects and products delivered.

  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase the understanding of the target audience.

  • Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals, briefs or formal presentations.

  • Standardize content across all platforms and media.

  • Gather usability feedback from customers, designers, and all stakeholders.

  • Revise and review documents as needed or directed.

  • Ensure all documentation is stored in document repository under version control.

  • Create from scratch and/or edit existing technical documents, including but limited to: white papers, reports, letters, user manuals, briefings, and presentations, memos, meeting minutes, agendas, reports, standard operating procedures, and other project deliverables.

  • Research and gather technical and background information for inclusion in documents.

  • Provide strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.

  • Participate in applicable work groups and organizational meetings.

  • Actively promote and represent a professional work environment.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Federal government practices and policies. 

 

Qualifications - External

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

 

Bachelor’s degree in related field and six (6) years or more of relevant experience; additional 4 years of experience in lieu of a degree.

 

Required Skills:

  • Must have three (7) years of hands-on relevant experience in technical writing, supporting an Information Technology staff.

  • Excellent English language, grammar, and spelling skills for writing, editing, and proofreading.

  • Experience with supporting all facets from a documentation perspective of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.

  • Skilled at organizing and translating complex technical information into clear written documentation.

  • Skilled at articulating complex concepts and processes in writing.

  • Proven ability to effectively research subject matter.

  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.

  • Proven ability to work well under tight deadlines and effectively interact with a wide range of personnel.

  • Must have hands-on experience using Microsoft Office product suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Project).

  • Demonstrated experience working as part of a team to create and edit documents.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing editing, redlining and formatting documents to create high quality documentation.

Required Clearance:

  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 6 + Years with BA 4 + Years with MBA
