UW Medicines IT Services department has an outstanding opportunity for an API Programmer 1!
UW Medicines Information Technology Services (ITS) department is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Neighborhood Clinics (UWNC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM) and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Childrens University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research and Seattle Childrens). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all of these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.
In collaboration with UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) and under the general guidance of the Interfaces and Data Integration Manager, the primary focuses of the Application Programming Interface (API) Programmer 1 (API Programmer) position are:
supporting the build and delivery of enterprise-class data and digital service APIs and traditional message-based integrations;
supporting the growth of the API Management service line across UW Medicine; and
supporting the Mulesoft Anypoint platform, the services built on the platform, and Line of Business developers.
Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
providing standard to intermediate level analysis, development, virtualization, and system testing, process, and experience of APIs in an API-led development environment;
providing standard to intermediate level analysis, development, and testing of enterprise integrations and solutions for enterprise, strategic programs and projects
creating standard to intermediate level data transfer workflows to support UW Medicine Data Analytics; and
providing 24/7 support for APIs and Integrations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Work - Deliver Standard to intermediate level APIs and Integrations (40%)
Develop/Virtualize standard to intermediate level system, process, and experience APIs.
Develop standard to intermediate level message-and file-based integrations particularly in the financial services domain.
Develop data movement workflows to support analytic use cases.
Elicit requirements and document technical specifications.
Test API, file, and queue-based integrations for enterprise programs using the platform.
Standard to intermediate level Support and Enhancement of Production Systems (40%)
Perform standard to intermediate level platform build and configuration for systems, including the MuleSoft Anypoint platform.
Develop and implement monitoring and alerting for systems, including the MuleSoft Anypoint platform.
Develop support processes and documentation for systems, including the MuleSoft Anypoint platform.
Team Process Improvements and API Management Program Development (15%)
Code and support reusable API accelerators and "building blocks".
Create best practices to enable self-service of customers.
Implement and support Continuous Integration / Continuous Development (CI/CD) pipelines.
Assist with API Management program development.
Consult with Line of Business developers on platform use.
Create KPIs for value reporting and process improvement.
Personal Development Activities (5%)
Participate in all aspects of improving the team, including education/training of other team members and contributing to process/communication improvement initiatives.
Work with manager to set professional goals for career development.
Act as back-up for other team members and functions, as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
3+ years experience must include the following:
Demonstrated Business Analyst or software development experience designing and building complex, mission-critical information systems or integrations.
Demonstrated experience supporting critical information systems or services in a 24/7 model.
Some experience building APIs using SOAP and/or RESTful standards.
Experience working within a formal project management methodology.
Familiar with HL7 FHIR.
Familiar with HTTP/s, RAML, WSDL, SOAP, ReST,JSON, and XML.
Familiar with API Management and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) concepts and/or tools.
Familiar with programming language like Java, SCC tools like Git, and CI/CD tools like Azure Dev/Ops.
DESIRED
Previous experience in and knowledge of academic healthcare systems and/or operational environments.
Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, PhD, etc.)
HL7 FHIR Certification
Certified Epic Interconnect API Developer
Hands-on experience with Healthcare interoperability standards e.g., HL7 2.x, HL7 FHIR, DICOM.
Hands-on experience building SMART on FHIR healthcare applications and/or consuming healthcare APIs provided by Epic or other major EHR vendors.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.
The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The work may be performed in either an office environment or by telecommuting with manager approval, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.
Must have the ability to meet in person as directed by manager.
Because of the physically separated sites for UW Medicine, this position requires the ability to travel to alternative work locations as needed.
Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.
Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.
ITS provides services to all UW Medicine organizations HMC, UWMC-Montlake, UWMC-NW, VMC, UWNC, UWP, SOM, and ALNW. The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
