**Job Description Summary**
The BWRX-300 Product Cost Engineer will be in integral part of the Design-to-Cost ecosystem to drive cost reduction strategies and implement change management to ensure product competitiveness and improve financial results. In this role, you will work as a key partner with the BWRX-300 Design-to-Cost Program manager, design engineers and the global supply chain team to develop a cost competitive reactor design that satisfies regulatory and customer requirements.
**Job Description**
**Job Description Essential Responsibilities:**
**Responsibilities**
+ Responsible for leading activities with the BWRX-300 product line, engineering, and supply chain to generate and execute Product Cost projects.
+ Ensure design teams clearly understand Life Cycle Costs (LCC) to the customer for a reactor over its full life, while considering manufacturing, assembly, transportation, installation, construction, inspection, maintenance, and decommissioning. Focus on cost elements of LCC which can be influenced by the design process.
+ Implement Design-to-Cost (DTC) to achieve designs that meet stated cost targets, while ensuring cost is addressed on a continuing basis as part of design, procurement, manufacturing, and construction. Ensure DTC helps achieve the best balance between LCC, regulatory requirements, acceptable performance, and schedule. Ensure cost is considered an equivalent design parameter and constraint.
+ Work with BWRX-300 Design-to-Cost Program manager to communicate and track target costs down to a level of the hardware where costs can be effectively managed. In addition to capital cost targets also consider staffing, operations & maintenance costs, levelized cost of electricity and schedule targets.
+ Work closely with System & Design engineers, Cost Estimators, and the supply chain team on common and consistent product cost models with industry standard codes of accounts. Periodically assist in validating product cost models.
+ Actively participate in Trade Studies to drive creative exploration of concept and design alternatives as a basis for developing lower cost design approaches. Help identify Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and encourage focus on technology maturation plans. Conduct sensitivity analysis to determine where efforts will have most impact. Use Lean and Six Sigma tools (e.g. FMEAs, QFDs, Pareto charts, etc.). Support Design Reviews.
+ Lead system level DTC Implementation Plan and responsive DTC Action Plans when costs in certain areas appear to be at risk of exceeding target costs. Monitor status, improvements, and gaps by maintaining scorecards for SSCs or similar through the various design phases.
+ Empower engineers to utilize DTC in their day-to-day work. Help create user friendly estimating models, tools, and templates that are useful to engineers that utilize Analogous Estimating, Parametric Estimation, ratios, rules of thumb, learning curves (FOAK to NOAK), etc. Provide engineers with access to cost data and assistance with models, tools, templates, and rules of thumb.
+ Facilitate communication and collaboration between product management, engineering, sourcing and cost estimating using real time productivity tools in common environments. Interject oneself into the product management, design, estimating, and sourcing processes. Identify and recommend changes to processes and procedures. Create synergies that will result in an optimal technical and economical solution for the product.
+ Utilize change management skills to ensure executive management, products, projects, engineering, and development teams buy-in to DTC and commit to product cost targets and development budgets to improve the chances of meeting objectives. Provide periodic updates on progress to the BWRX-300 Product Manager.
+ Support GEH productivity and quality initiatives.
+ Ensure the on-time completion of all assigned and proposal activities including business initiatives for Quality, Cost, Reliability, Performances, etc.
+ Develop technical capabilities concurrent with execution of position responsibilities.
+ Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
**Qualifications/Requirements:**
**Required:**
+ Bachelor's Degree of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university
+ Minimum 5 years of experience in power generation or technical heavy industry
+ Minimum 2 years of demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work independently with minimal direction required
+ Willingness to travel (~15%)
**Desired:**
+ Excellent English language skills (written and spoken)
+ Advanced engineering degree
+ Previous DTC responsibilities and/or experience, supported by knowledge of DTC tools, practices, and their application
+ Understanding of customer affordability or competitive pricing requirements by the key participants in the development process
+ Understanding of the reactor cost drivers and consideration of cost drivers in establishing product specifications and in focusing attention on cost reduction
+ Nuclear reactor cost estimating experience
+ Nuclear reactor design experience
+ Strong background in nuclear power plant design, application, regulations, and operation.
+ Deep understanding of light water reactors (BWRX-300, ABWR, ESBWR) and sodium fast reactors (PRISM, Natrium, and Versatile Test Reactor)
+ Knowledgeable of nuclear power systems, nuclear power plants, controls, equipment, and terminology
+ Knowledge of nuclear regulations and ability to interact with foreign nuclear regulatory bodies.
+ Knowledge and experience with engineering and project tools, processes, and software
+ Well established planning, organizing, influencing, and networking skills to implement courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently
+ Team player and self-starter with demonstrated design creativity and problem-solving capability
+ Additional language skills (written and spoken)
+ Well established communication and presentation skills (oral and written) to all levels within GEH and parent companies, and to customers, partners, and suppliers
