POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Electrical Shop Supervisor the Electrician Helper performs minor electrical repairs and installations and replaces or installs lamps, ballasts and switches.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:
Performs minor electrical repair work under supervision.Assists Electrician or Lead Electrician with the installation and repair of electrical circuits and equipment for permanent and temporary wiring
Completes work assignments and maintains record of lamps and ballasts replaced for University Lamp Replacement Program.
Draws and carries electrical tools and materials for assignments.
Ensures that worksite is clean after the completion of work.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Attend to emergencies when necessary
Support and enforce all policies of the university, as well as university health and safety regulations and guidelines.
Reports any necessary repairs to supervisor.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
EQUIPMENT/COMPUTER SKILLS: This role routinely uses equipment such as power tools, outdoor equipment, for the repair and general maintenance of university equipment.
Ability to safely use applicable tools, machine, equipment, personal protective equipment in the performance of duties
Competence in both oral and written English
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School diploma or GED and one year of janitorial or related work experience. Previous experience in a school setting strongly desired . Vocational or any other technical school, training, or apprenticeship beyond HS may be substituted and considered in lieu of experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, pull, push and walk for a minimum of three hours. Also must possess the ability to lift at least 45 lbs. using safe lifting techniques. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position operates in an industrial plant and collegial environment; potential to work near and with moving mechanical parts; with regular exposure to electricity, fumes, dirt, airborne particles, hazardous materials and outdoor weather conditions.
