US Public Finance - Analyst/Senior Analyst, Public Power - New York
Fitch Ratings is seeking a self-motivated, inquisitive fixed-income analyst to work with the Public Power team within Fitch's U.S. Public Finance group. The candidate must be able to work independently, with preference given for working experience in municipal credit analysis or utility operations. The position is located in either New York City - Hearst Tower or the Austin, TX regional office.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Analyzing financial, debt, and operational data related to public and cooperatively-owned electric utilities
Consistently raising analytical questions to assess relevant risks in the context of Fitch's published criteria
Writing credit reports summarizing quantitative and qualitative analysis
Presenting analysis and making recommendations to committee of analysts within the public finance department
Actively participating in rating committee discussions and deliberations
Attending issuer meetings and, as appropriate, industry conferences
Building and maintaining relationships with colleagues, issuers and financial advisors
Collecting and tracking industry / issuer specific data for department-wide research projects
Enrolling in the Fitch Credit Academy internal training program and passing Fitch's Core Curriculum assessment within the first 12 months in the position
Additional projects and assignments, as assigned
Some travel is required
Position Requirements:
One to three years of experience in credit analysis, U.S. public finance or municipal utility operations
Candidate will ideally possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Business or Accounting or other Relevant Sector (public policy, electrical engineering); additional years of work experience beyond the minimum may be substituted in lieu of a graduate degree.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Analytical judgement to process, understand and interpret relevant quantitative data accurately.
Self-motivation and enthusiasm for synthesizing complex information and concepts into straightforward, concise and insightful analysis.
Willingness to contribute to a positive work environment; work collaboratively as part of a team.
Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced, transaction-oriented environment.
Deliver quality outputs to internal and external parties within tight deadlines.
High level integrity and attention to detail.
Strong numbers and data background; proficient with Excel and Word.
