Garmin is seeking an Embedded Infotainment Sr. Software Engineer to join our growing Automotive OEM team at our location in Brea, CA. You will be part of an embedded software team responsible for development of Broadcast Tuner technologies for Garmins state-of-the-art automotive infotainment products. You will be involved in developing moderately complex software as well as creating and executing designs for small sets of new functionalities.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Serves in a leadership capacity for carrying out software development in C/C++ for new products and/or applications
Utilizes software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development process
May serve as a Lead Software Engineer for complex software development project designs and/or participate in reviews of architected modules and software systems supporting new technology or improving capability/performance of existing functionality
Decomposes functional requirements into well-defined tasks
Researches fundamental problems and implements algorithm solutions that are appropriate
Offers peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs
Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents
Makes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility and applies good judgment in planning/risk taking
Work closely with the HMI and UX experts to assist with user interfaces for tuner technologies
May work with electrical engineers and Tuner chip manufacturers to bring up new tuners
May assist design engineers with component datasheet review and schematic design review
Mentors and/or supervises to less experienced Software Engineers
Contributes to advanced technical research on new technologies
Offers process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate
Ability to travel 10-15% of the time as needed (domestically and internationally)
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrated proficiency with designing well architected software systems and modules that support new technology or improve capability/performance of existing functionality
Demonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs
Possess detailed knowledge and experience with software development including experience with C/C++ on embedded systems
Good knowledge of software engineering tools such as git, gdb, kdb, valgrind
Experience working with logic analyzers and oscilloscopes
Experience with Linux device drivers, Linux kernel, and protocols such as I2C, SPI, I2S
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Experience in developing Tuner (Broadcast Radio) technologies like FM, HD Radio or Hybrid Radio
Experience with Agile methodologies
Ability to read and understand schematics
Experience with Google test framework and/or test-driven development
Experience with Android internals (HAL and HAL services)
