Position Summary:

UTHealth Houston is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to be a part of the Infrastructure & Operational Support group within DCO. This team focuses on messaging, Active Directory, load balancing, Linux, DNS, mobile device management, Citrix & other enterprise-level systems in addition to many smaller systems and applications. Support for these systems includes design, implementation, support, patching, troubleshooting, and working closely with application owners, peers, and customers to help with performance tuning, troubleshooting and upgrades.

This Senior Systems Administrator focuses on Exchange on-premise & Exchange Online administration.

Required Skills Include:

Exchange Online & on-premise Administration: Implementation, design, backup/restore, daily admin/monitoring, installation, performance tuning, troubleshooting, break/fix, and daily interaction with peers and customers for all things email related.

Server Administration: Windows Server 2012+, includes installation of servers, operating systems, configuration, security and troubleshooting of specialized systems and applications. This includes physical and virtual systems. Also, a good working knowledge of storage sub-systems as related to system configuration and optimization.

Client/Server Application support: Backend systems support for client-server applications with a good understanding of the system design lifecycle (SDLC). Proven implementation skills for enterprise level solutions. Experience with SSL cert configuration and management. A basic understanding of networking technologies. Also, a working knowledge of system monitoring tools.

Organizational Skills: Ability to understand project methodology and project management. Use of Microsoft Teams and M365 tools such as Planner.

Communication and Teamwork: Ability to communicate both written or orally to a wide variety of audiences. Must have the ability to think logically in solving problems, as well as implement workable solutions. Must be able to resolve all problems existing and newly discovered to move the project towards completion.

Candidates should have a broad scope of technical capabilities that will enable them to handle all aspects of application management as well as communicate and discuss technical design issues and problem resolution with Application Administrators, other Systems Administrators, and customers.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Responsible for all procedures and processes necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of organizational servers, data systems, file structures, computer operating systems and computer system software.
2. Responsible for all activities related to system administration.
3. Assigns personnel to various projects, directs their activities, and evaluates their work.
4. Responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, security and integrity of computer operating systems and supporting software.
5. Implements operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability, safety and performance of the system.
6. Performs programming and testing.
7. Conducts studies of projected enhancements in hardware and software and presents recommendations to management.
8. Conducts performance measurement and evaluation of the computer system.
9. Determines and implements security and performance improvement activities.
10. Participates in all phases of total system planning and in the generation of justifications and specifications for facility requirements and enhancements.
11. Implements system software projects.
12. Plans and supervises training of systems administrator personnel.
13. Presents technical briefings.
14. Participates in formulation and implementation of installation standards and procedures.
15. Attends professional conferences and acts in place of supervisor as needed.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Ability to configure and administer diverse servers and computer operating systems. Familiar with WEB technology, database concepts and networking.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree, training in information technology or related experience in lieu of education

Minimum Experience:

Three (3) years of experience in information technology support and systems administration in diverse environments.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
