Global Sustainability and ESG Analyst

Job Summary

Reporting to the Global Sustainability Manager, this role will significantly contribute to the implementation of AECOMs Sustainable Legacies / ESG Strategy with a range of responsibilities to support the achievement of net zero and enhancing governance. This includes our leading science-based net zero targets, to at least halve all emissions by 2030 and reduce by 90% by 2040. It also means supporting the maintenance of our operational net zero commitment through carbon offsetting residual emissions. This role will also support the application of our ESG project risk framework, supporting our teams globally to assess and mitigate ESG risk for particularly complex projects globally. It will also support ESG reporting for our shareholders and clients, in line with best practice.

Achieving Net Zero:

  • Supporting development of interventions in support of our science-based net zero targets

  • Supporting development of our net zero roadmap, as a key member of the Corporate Environmental Working Group

  • Carbon accounting in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, particularly on Scope 3 emissions (purchased goods and services, capital goods and business travel)

  • Feeding into the effort to reduce supply chain emissions, including through supplier engagement and low carbon procurement

  • Feeding into the effort to reduce operational (fleet vehicle and office energy emissions) and business travel emissions

Enhancing Governance:

  • Supporting the application of our ESG project risk assessment, through risk identification and mitigation of projects associated with thermal coal, new oil and gas, land acquisition / vulnerable people, and cultural heritage

  • Supporting Corporate Communications for reporting into the Annual Report and ESG Report on relevant topics, and reporting in line with TCFD and SASB

  • Responding to client sustainability questionnaires, particularly CDP and Ecovadis.

  • Supporting bid writing for sustainability

General:

  • Collating and analysing quantitative and qualitative data

  • Prioritising tasks and meeting commitments on an on-going basis and taking ownership and responsibility for the timely completion and quality of work

  • Leading and participating in project team meetings, client meetings and internal meetings

  • Providing ideas and potential solutions for more effective environmental and sustainability outcomes and proactively promoting best practice and innovation across our business

  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation, policy, guidance and best practice relating to sustainability and ESG

  • Building relationships internally across teams within AECOM to expand the scope of our reach

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills and the aptitude to understand and communicate complex technical information

  • Excellent research and report writing skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ability to work as part of a team and the capacity to collaborate and communicate effectively internally and externally at various levels

  • A willingness to work flexibly across different areas

  • An ability to work to deadlines, work flexibly under pressure and respond to changing project and programme demands

  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to structure and prioritise the delivery of project outputs effectively while working as part of a team

  • An ability to think creatively and to advance innovative ideas

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.

  • A passion for sustainability and improving ESG issues

  • A geography, environmental sustainability, sustainable development, environmental sciences, environmental economics, conservation or other strongly numerate subject area degree.

  • Understanding of sustainability issues globally, but particularly in key locations such as the USA.

  • Self-starter, able to work independently for periods

  • Strategic thinking, combining ambition and pragmatism

  • Understanding of the how the infrastructure / engineering and consultancy sectors operate
