When faced with challenges to solve, you dive in and think creatively to find great solutions to research-based questions. You have a good understanding of financial metrics and are comfortable with numbers, you are experienced in finding industry research, managing a pipeline of requests, but importantly you have a flair for customer service. You will have most likely worked in a similar research service for a professional services or consulting firm previously.

A&M's Insight Centre is the rapidly growing research and benchmarking arm of Alvarez & Marsal. The mission of A&M's Insight Centre is to provide our professionals and our client executives with highly relevant, industry specific, actionable, fact-based insights derived through our proprietary benchmark and research studies on a global basis. A&M's Insight Centre supports client work and business development projects with an ever-growing toolbox of products, including custom benchmarking and research studies and targeted subscriptions and resources. The team considers research both a science and an art, and as such is committed to developing high-quality, unique and insightful deliverables to support stakeholders.

A&M's Insight Centre is looking for a London-based Research Analyst to support our research on debt and credit advisory. The role involves working directly with project teams to deliver benchmarking, analytics and research services which support thought leadership, business development and client work. This role requires the keen ability to multi-task in order to deliver a range of research requests, help with research product evaluations and train staff on research techniques and best practice. There will be a focus on providing data from Bloomberg, so experience of the database is required, as well as the ability to conduct financial analysis.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in a related field (relevant Financial Analysis or Information degree preferred)

  • Relevant work experience in a similar role

  • Excellent analytical skills and research experience using Bloomberg

  • Knowledge of other research databases Factiva, Capital IQ, APQC

  • Financial research, financial analysis, and financial markets/trends

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel)

  • Good project management skills, able to manage a research request pipeline, and multi-task

  • Demonstrable financial research, financial analysis, and financial markets/trends knowledge

  • Outstanding customer relationship management skills, able to manage expectations, delivery timescales, and agree outputs

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Your responsibilities

You will fulfill a wide range of varied research requests by interacting directly with A&M stakeholders from all divisions and across all levels - from Analysts to Managing Directors. You will engage in the full life-cycle of the request from the scoping phase to delivering the final output. These requests will include, but are not limited to the following examples:

  • Conducting financial analysis on a range of companies to understand their financial health, with particular focus on debt structures

  • Creating market overviews to track industry trends

  • Screening for data on the fixed income market at both a government and corporate level

  • Sourcing commodity pricing/indices

  • Identifying and obtaining reports from industry, financial, IT and news subscriptions and resources

  • Assisting in Selling, General & Administrative (SG&A) functional and process benchmarking

In addition, you will:

  • Help to manage the research request pipeline through Salesforce.com

  • Collaborate with the team to prioritise, coordinate and project manage research requests that are sent to our third-party research partners

  • Promote the Insight Centre and provide education on how to leverage and engage with the Insight Centre

  • Work collaboratively with counterparts in the global Insight Centre team to drive a "one-firm" approach to research Positive and "Let's Get it Done" attitude; willing to pitch in where needed

D esirable skills and experience

  • Qualified to CFA level 1 or above

  • Research experience using Bloomberg is a necessity

  • Multi-lingual (EU languages) strongly preferred; English-language proficiency test may be required
