**Job Description**
Design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software. Set operational specifications, and formulate and analyze software requirements. May design embedded systems software.
The IT Software Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining software in order to enhance supported systems and provide value to internal end-users. This includes participating in a number of development life-cycle phases (requirements gathering, software design, implementation, testing, and maintenance) that are associated with developing quality software. The software engineer will work in an agile team development style and will be expected to participate in team meetings and collaboration. They will be required to develop an understanding of integration points and dependencies associated with software, business requirements, and system characteristics.
This position provides SAP application support to Newport News Shipbuildings HR, Payroll, Safety and Clinic applications. The developer will be expected to learn and provide solutions in the following areas:
SAP software development utilizing the ABAP programming language.
SAP entities such as reports, transactions, LSMW, ALV grids, SAP data dictionary, BAPIs, and BADIs
Application of SAP OSS notes
Systems analysis, design, and testing
Automated unit and regression testing utilizing ABAP Unit and scripting tools
Software documentation
Report and user interface design
New software development and information technology trends
**Basic Qualifications**
Bachelors Degree and 9 years of experience. Masters Degree and 7 years of experience. Ph.D. and 4 years of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelors degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelors degree. A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelors Degree.
**Preferred Qualifications**
Designs, develops, and tests programs for SAP modules and functions utilizing the ABAP programming language
Interfaces with functional teams and end-users to ensure the proper integration of business processes and procedures.
Prepares comprehensive and thorough technical program documentation including, but not limited to, requirements documents, test plans, and test cases .
