This is an outstanding opportunity for a\rscientist who will pursue applied research and develop products in the areas of\roptical systems and atmospheric sensing. The potential areas of research,\rdevelopment, and applications are optical systems, lasers, optical systems\rdesign, ray tracing, optical detection, and atmospheric physics.
Honeywell Aerospace is a leading global\rprovider of integrated avionics, engines, systems and service solutions for\raircraft manufacturers, airlines, business and general aviation, military,\rspace and airport operations. This scientist will be expected work on a team to\rdevelop new concepts, develop intellectual property, write project proposals,\rassess competitive technologies and products, and develop new technologies for\rfuture products. This will include understanding customer requirements,\rtranslating those into device and product requirements, performing trade\rstudies, writing research and development proposals, project cost estimating,\rbudgeting, and program management. The scientist must be technically creative,\rhave strong organizational and communication skills, and able to work in a\rcollaborative environment.
KEY\rRESPONSIBILITIES
Manage wide range of tasks including but not limited to interfacing with suppliers, program management, work with a large cross-functional team, understand roadmaps, acquiring parts and defining criteria for prototyping Advanced LIDAR Systems.
The person must be able to exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for achieving program objectives.
Define development methods and procedures, new assignments, and coordinate activities of other personnel.
Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth assessment of many variable factors.
Lead and influence technology direction as well as defining ways that enables innovate solutions.
Prioritize new business development and lead customer interactions.
YOU\rMUST HAVE
Master€™s Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics with minimum of 8 years working in Research and Development organizations or a PHD with a minimum of 6 years.
Cross-functional team leadership of engineers, scientists, and technicians
The candidate must have strong communication and presentation skills
Program management experience of internal and external R&D projects including scheduling, milestone tracking, manpower planning, earned-value measurement, estimating and budgeting
Experience in planning, and executing externally funded proposal activities involving multiple sites and external partners
WE\rVALUE
Capable of leading, planning, and executing the development and testing of sensors, including debugging hardware and software desired
Knowledge and research experience with LIDAR systems
Directly related experience with systems modeling, optical systems, electro-optics, laser systems, sensor electronics, and/or sensor technology
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Physics
Analytical capability to design optical systems using tools such as optical ray tracing/simulation tools: End-to-end optical simulation: Zemax or equivalent, ray tracing (free space) or Particle/atmospheric radiative transfer (scattering) modeling
Knowledge and experience in Python
Advanced linear algebra; Least squares / maximum likelihood estimation, deconvolution, principal component analysis
Experience with laboratory optical system set up and measurements
Knowledge and experience in taking optical systems through maturation from concept development to engineering to production
Experience and knowledge of atmospheric physics or meteorology
Knowledge and experience in developing intellectual property including patents and assessments
