As the Operations Improvement Specialist you will be the primary support member to all Coatings Services (CSV) facilities assigned to effectively analyze CSV manufacturing processes and identify areas for improvement, with primary focus on safety, ergonomics, operating efficiencies, and reducing costs. The candidate will contribute to the achievement of business objectives by finding opportunities for effective use of innovative technologies in combination with CSV tools. The position will report to the Coatings Services Director Operational Excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for defining the scope of projects, setting, and controlling CSV operation expectations, maintaining the overall operations relationship, along with influencing project requirements/design and prioritization.
Participate in the definition, testing, training, implementation, and support of CSV manufacturing solutions.
Identify equipment requirements, develop operating parameters, conduct required validation activities, and track and document the results.
Uncover Plant requirements via on-site visits and off-site meetings and apply techniques such as data flow modeling, process mapping, and workflow analysis.
Develop or maintain alternative technical solutions using various tools; consult with CSV corporate leaders and technical support members to follow PPG and industry standards, and they document the results of activities using the appropriate templates or tools.
Responsible for ensuring that solutions delivered to Plant customers adhere to PPG's methodology and EHS standards.
Demonstrate an understanding of the Operational Excellence's group role in process improvement and possess analytical and conceptual skills.
Negotiation, influencing and bringing cross functional teams to consensus are key attributes of the successful Inventory Control Specialist.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a manufacturing engineering related field or equivalent work experience is required; additional training may be assigned to ensure ongoing development.
7+ years of experience in a coatings manufacturing, or related manufacturing operations.
Must be willing to travel 40-60%, depending on project requirements.
Prior development, training, practical experience with continuous improvement projects.
An understanding of basic concepts, terminology, and practical application of current and emerging technologies
Good understanding of the benefits and use of Lean tools.
Familiarity with project management techniques
Knowledge and experience in gathering requirements, functional design, and working with business processes
Good technical knowledge and ability to express complex technical concepts in terms that are understandable to the business
