The UW School of Public Health (SPH) is ranked sixth in the nation in the most recent US News and World Report survey of graduate schools of public health, and third among publicly funded schools of public health. With a student body of nearly 400 undergraduates and more than 900 graduate students, the Schools academic, research and service missions are supported by 250 full-time faculty and more than 600 staff who work within five academic departments: Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Global Health (joint with the School of Medicine), Health Services and the Office of the Dean (OD). The Schools annual budget is more than $225 million.

This position serves as an integral member of the Academic Affairs team as the Curriculum and Accreditation Specialist.  Under the direction of the Vice Dean of Education, this position proactively manages the dynamic activities and processes associated with the development, implementation, and sustainability of School of Public Health curricular programs and accreditation activities. The Curriculum and Accreditation Specialist plays a key role in the Schools mission to educate and prepare outstanding, innovative, and diverse public health leaders and scientists. The position will support, and incorporate in its work, the Schools diversity values to embrace and build on diverse perspectives, beliefs, and cultures to promote public health.

The Curriculum and Accreditation Specialist will be responsible for facilitating the process of SPH wide course review and approval, staying current with best practices in curriculum, serve as liaison and advocate between departments, programs, School and the University of Washington Curriculum Committee, developing accreditation project timelines, supporting curriculum focused committees, facilitating resolution of course scheduling conflicts between departments, and supporting academic affairs focused work. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CURRICULUM MANAGEMENT:

  1. Participate in the development of SPH policies and procedures related to curriculum through service as a partner on SPH curriculum planning and policymaking committee(s).

  2. Evaluate the success of policies and practices while proactively engaging, collaborating and communicating with stakeholders as needed.

  3. Managing and supporting the curriculum review and approval process for the School of Public Health (SPH) in a standing staff position on the Curriculum and Educational Policy Committee (CEPC) and as a representative of the Deans Office.

  4. Serve as the main point of contact for CEPC and the Deans Office on the curriculum submission, review and approval processes.

  5. Orienting new department and program staff to SPH, CEPC, Graduate School and UWCC curricular procedures.

  6. Assisting with enacting faculty development and course improvement initiatives to increase cross-departmental collaboration, especially on core curriculum.

  7. Attending various ad hoc meetings regarding curriculum development as needed.

  8. Serves as a liaison to departments and programs concerning the decisions made by the CEPC and other SPH wide committees. This includes communicating upcoming programmatic changes to appropriate SPH student services and curriculum staff.

  9. Actively communicating with departments regarding upcoming deadlines related to CEPC, the UW Curriculum Committee, and Time Schedule Production.

  10. Facilitating clear communication among the departmental curriculum coordinators and between departmental curriculum coordinators and the Deans Office.

  11. Planning and facilitating quarterly meetings for the departmental curriculum coordinators and scheduling staff. This will be with the intention of increasing clear communication around planning for future terms.

  12. Designing, implementing and managing shared curriculum and accreditation workspaces such as SharePoint, Catalyst or intranet WordPress site to increase communication and transparency school-wide.

  13. Researching and responding to inquiries and requests for information from SPH faculty.

    ACCREDITATION:

  14. Ability to understand and interpret accreditation big picture to develop an implementation plan to support the Schools accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

  15. Manage continuing accreditation compliance including syllabi review etc.

  16. Maintenance of CEPH accreditation and reporting requirements.

  17. Guiding and collaborating with faculty, administrators, and departmental staff representatives in accreditation compliance activities.

    OPERATIONS, ADMINISTRATION & DATA MANAGEMENT:

  18. Providing support regarding classroom scheduling across the school by acting as an SPH liaison to Health Sciences Academic Services & Facilities; assisting in the time schedule construction process by helping to identify courses that need to be prioritized for assignment to prime time slots in large classrooms.

  19. Managing process improvement efforts including developing, documenting, and maintaining written policy and procedures related to the operational functions of the position.

  20. Collaborating on high-level surveys and/or coordinate school-wide surveying (e.g.: accreditation reporting, alumni surveys).

  21. Managing program evaluation surveys, where appropriate.

  22. Staffing committees as assigned to include supporting committee chair(s) via thought partnership, drafting and publishing meeting agenda, taking meeting minutes to record decisions made by committees, posting meeting materials on SharePoint or Catalyst sites, coordinating with office administrative support staff to secure room reservations, and produce printed materials for meetings.

  23. Developing, implementing, and overseeing the administration of processes and systems that support the charge of assigned committees.

  24. Maintaining an up-to-date master record of the MPH common core curriculum, which may include quarterly course schedules.

  25. Maintaining and adding to CEPC and Deans Office curricular archives, including meeting agendas and minutes, documents related to policy decisions, school-wide course syllabi, and course and program applications and approval documents.

  26. Recording and tracking curricular changes and new curriculum proposals for the School of Public Health via the Master Log (excel spreadsheet), and tracking and reporting status of approvals from the UW Curriculum Office to SPH stakeholders.

  27. Maintain UW Catalog and SPH web and other portals with curriculum information.

  28. Support annual or periodic reporting on curriculum, accreditation, instructional reporting.

  29. Track, collect and record accreditation and self-study records from School departments and programs as applicable.

  30. Other duties as appropriate including special projects assigned by the supervisor.


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  31. Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in Education or related field plus 2-3 years of experience working in academic affairs, curriculum, accreditation and/or higher education administration.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

  42. Familiarity with the UW Time Schedule Update and Construction systems.

  43. Skill in reading and writing meeting minutes for committees on complex topics.

  44. Skill in researching and evaluating curriculum standards.

  45. Skill in communicating effectively both in oral and written form.

  46. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.

  47. Ability to utilize computer technology for communication, and reporting activities.

  48. Experience contributing to and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.


    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  49. Master's of Education.

  55. Experience with UW systems and procedures.

  56. Knowledge of UW curriculum policies and procedures.
