The Asbury Lab in the UW Department of Physiology and Biophysics has an excellent opportunity for a Research Scientist Engineer 3. The Asbury Lab studies the molecular machinery of mitosis using techniques for manipulating and tracking individual molecules.
The Research Scientist Engineer 3 will be uncovering how kinetochores the protein machines that connect chromosomes to the mitotic machinery sense and signal the difference between correct and incorrect attachments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Designing new experiments
Collecting and interpreting new data
Writing manuscripts describing the new data and its interpretations
Training junior lab members
Organizing laboratory meetings
Overseeing laboratory safety
REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree in Biophysics.
One to three years of job-related experience
Use of total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy for collection of time-lapse images of individual molecules
Image analysis techniques for single molecule experiments
Genetic manipulation of budding yeast
Preparation of yeast cell extracts
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with laser trapping
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
