The Department of Immunology has an outstanding opportunity for Research Scientist Engineer 3 to join their team.
Overview
The Research Scientist/Engineer 3 will be involved with research projects focused on understanding mechanisms of innate immune detection of nucleic acids and implications of nucleic acid sensing in antiviral immunity and cancer. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, candidate will design, perform and optimize experiments to identify components of innate immune nucleic acid sensing pathways, as well as identify the roles of cGAMP in cancer immunity. The RSE 3 will manage multiple projects in the lab that would require the use of sophisticated project planning techniques. The RSE 3 will provide innovative problem-solving approaches to enhance organizational capabilities and use peer networks to expand technical capabilities and identify new research opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct research. Identify methodological problems and implement appropriate procedural modifications utilizing approaches including:
Cell culture: Sterile culture of bacterial and eukaryotic cell lines; transformations; transfections; genomic engineering; flow cytometry.
Molecular genetics: Prepare nucleic acids from plasmids, cell culture and primary cells; prepare and analyze nucleic acid samples by restriction digestion, PCR and other techniques; prepare nucleic acids for next generation sequence analysis; and genotype cell lines.
Tumor immunoassays using established mouse models.
Develop conclusions and hypotheses relevant to the aims of research projects in the lab.
Present research results at laboratory, departmental and national meetings and participate in external seminars, workshops, professional societies and committees.
Contribute materials for grant submissions and actively participate in grant writing. Prepare results for reports and publications.
Interact collaboratively with research team. Mentor/train staff in development of technical, project and business development skills.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Masters Degree in biological sciences or related field.
One to three years of job related experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Strong interpersonal skills and analytical problem-solving ability.
Minimum of two years research experience with murine tumor models.
Working knowledge of a broad range of molecular and cellular biology techniques.
Knowledge of the principles of instrument operation and experience in instrument problem solving.
Excellent communication skills, teaching, leadership, and managerial skills.
Experience in working in a BSL-2 (biohazard safety level 2) environment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three to five years of job related experience.
