DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES


  • Defines the roadmap for the internal digital technology team focused on development, deployment and hosting.

  • Plans and ensures execution of long-term strategies, collaborating domestically and internationally, in support of technical, operational, and business objectives.

  • Build and mentor a multi-faceted technical team of engineers and leaders by providing both technical and organzational leadership.

  • Utilizes problem-solving methodologies to identify root causes and develop cross-team improvements and best practices.

  • Leverages forward thinking web development methodologies such as API-first, headless architecture, serverless frameworks, progressive web applications, design systems, etc.

  • Effectively communicates strategic and tactical technical plans to both technical and non-technical teams across the organization.

  • Ensures internal and external productions comply with Nintendo technical specifications, security, privacy laws and other important guidelines.

  • Works to ensure that consumer facing experiences delivers a WCAG 2.0 compliance.

  • Designs scalable web architecture that will support milions of user interactions a day.

  • Demonstrates a strong familiarity of front-end development (React), backend-development (Node.js), and cloud-based web hosting platforms (AWS).

  • Evangelizes new approaches and directs the team on new web technologies, frameworks and best practices.

  • Manages vendors and SaaS providers that build and power the Nintendo.com technology stack.

  • Requests and manages budgets to meet the needs of the business.

SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS


  • 10 years' experience leading software engineering managers and teams with a distinguished track record on technically demanding projects

  • 5 years of experience in a development role with web programming languages such as Javascript, Node.js, React, and CSS required

  • Expertise in interactive design, usability, and information architecture required

  • Extensive experience with web programming languages (HTML5, XML Node.js, JavaScript, CSS, JSON etc.) software (Visual Studio Code, FTP, TeamCity, etc), versioning software and workflows (SVN, Git) and development methodologies (MVC, OOP, SPA, etc)

  • Knowledge of cloud-based web hosting platforms (AWS).

  • Knowledge of graphics software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, etc.) a plus.

  • Solid understanding of web browsers and server capabilities and the constraints involved in designing for online and multimedia platforms

  • Knowledge and upkeep of current internet technology trends, new functionalities, and market demands

  • Strong understanding of site performance, web analytics, and search engine optimization (SEO) techniques

  • Experience managing large scale distributed systems, working with microservices and/or distributed architecture

  • Knowledge of cloud-based web hosting platforms (AWS) and system design using cloud-based web hosting required

  • Knowledge of versioning software (Git/Github), CI/CD pipeline automation (TeamCity), and infrastructure as code (Terraform) required

  • Working experience of software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, SCM, CI, build processes, testing, and operations

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience
