**Description**
**Primary Responsibilities:**
Obtains detailed patient insurance benefit information for all aspects of the transplant process, including but not limited to inpatient, outpatient, prescription drugs, organ acquisition, follow-up clinic visits, and travel and housing if necessary.
Obtains all necessary transplant payer authorizations. Verifies transplant coverage and other medical benefits initially and on an ongoing basis and acquires necessary referrals and authorizations in coordination with OTP business office staff, Scheduler, and/or Registration Representatives.
Monitors and updates information regarding insurance data, physicians, authorizations and preferred providers. Assists patients with questions concerning insurance and other financial issues.
Identifies and effectively communicates financial information to transplant team members, patients and their families with emphasis on identifying any potential patient out-of-pocket liability.
Processes and forwards financial forms to other organizational departments, or required regulation entities such as Medicare, Medicaid, and UNOS.
Become part of the larger transplant community, which includes participation in professional societies, continuing education, and overall involvement in broader transplant work.
**SCHEDULE:** Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5pm PST.
The Patient Financial Specialist is responsible for protecting the financial integrity of the Swedish Organ Transplant Program. The Financial Specialist shall be a designated member of the transplant team and will be assigned primary responsibility for coordinating and clarifying patient-specific financial aspects of transplant care. The financial specialist will work with patients and their families beginning with the evaluation for transplantation and continuing through and after transplantation, in a compassionate and tactful manner in order to help facilitate access to and provide continuity of care. The financial specialist will also work with other members of the transplant team, insurers and administrative personnel.
**Required qualifications:**
+ Associate's Degree in Business, Finance or related field.
+ Two (2) years Patient financial counseling or insurance company experience.
+ One (1) year experience in a medical inpatient or outpatient clinical setting.

+ Bachelor's Degree
