THE ROLE
Great opportunity for a new college graduate or early career professional!
AMDs Strategic Silicon Solutions group is looking for a Custom SoC Memory subsystem bringup and characterization Systems Design Engineer. This group is responsible for custom silicon for advanced gaming platforms such as XBOX, PlayStation, and Steam Deck. The memory controller, PHY and DRAMs need to be enabled, tuned and characterized for best performance and power efficiency. The team works on identifying optimal settings, provides feedback to manufacturing, software development, architects, and business development to facilitate decisions to ensure devices meet the desired specifications and to make decisions about future product directions.
The Memory team is looking for engineers to assemble, test, and analyze engineering prototypes and to help us ensure our products are reaching their full potential. You will see the direct results of your efforts in consumer products you and your friends use and enjoy every day.
Memory team members have opportunities to learn about system architecture, I/O design, board design and manufacturing processes, along with how different platform features work together to impact power and performance.
The work is primarily onsite in Austin, Texas but with a flexible schedule and opportunities to do some work from home. We collaborate with teams around the world so meetings may take place outside of standard business hours.
Key responsibilities
Execute test plans for bringup and tuning of memory sub-systems
Analyze data with the guidance of senior engineers using tools like Python or Microsoft Excel
Assist with our ongoing automation efforts
Assist with debugging functional issues with systems
Support customers with their platform enabling.
The Person
The right candidate will
Have exposure to system architecture and building systems in a lab environment
Understand the components that are used to build a PC and how they interact with one another
Have a strong background in computer architecture and object-oriented software development
Have experience scripting in languages such as Python
Some exposure to VLSI design and concepts of analog circuit design.
Be comfortable interacting with a diverse set of colleagues, self-motivated to solve problems, and proactive to get help when needed
Be comfortable using, maintaining, and debugging Windows and Linux-based systems
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
A minimum of a bachelors or masters degree inElectrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
WHAT ELSE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Internship experience developing software or working as part of a pre or post-silicon hardware engineering team is a plus.
