JOB SUMMARY

This position is focused on upstream process development to assist developing and optimizing cell culture process including media development, feeding strategies, process parameter optimization, process characterization and scale-up for large scale production to support vaccine or monoclonal antibody development from preclinical through Phase III, to commercialization.

The main responsibilities will include assisting the design, execution, and documentation of experiments to develop phase-appropriate upstream processes (bioreactor, transfection, infection, microfiltration, filtration) to enable transfer and scale-up of robust processes to the commercial space.

Documentation of these activities is also required, including recording in lab notebooks, draft SOPs and batch records, writing development reports. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced team environment and be able to learn new skills quickly.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform adherent and suspension mammalian cell culture using disposable technologies.
Perform mammalian cell cultures in multi well plates, shake flasks, CellSTACKs and bioreactors. Prepare media and monitor cell density, viability, etc.
Develop and optimize the cell culture parameters (for various cell lines) and nutrient requirement in shaker flasks and disposable bioreactors (10L, 50L and 200L) for mammalian suspension cell growth for virus or virus like particle, or antibody production.
Write technical reports and tech transfer reports, draft SOPs and batch records.
Utilize and maintain related equipment for such operations as bioreactors, pumps, mixer, tube welders, ect.
Troubleshooting the issues related to cell culture process development.
Work with vendors or CROs to evaluate materials, equipment and to review development reports.
Work with a high degree of independence to lead R&D projects and contribute to project planning.
Maintain high level of scientific expertise through familiarity with current scientific literature.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
B.S. degree in biology or related area with 3-6 years of experience working in process development or protein science required.
Cell culture experience, cell transfection experience and strong aseptic technique.
Mammalian cell culture experience with various adherent cells and suspension cells such as Vero, HEK293, CHO cells preferred.
Experience working with bioreactors (small scale and large scale), both rocker and/or stir tank preferred.
Team player and collaborator, ability to listen and communicate in a clear and timely manner
Proven collaboration skills, learning agility, conceptual and strategic thinking, passion for results, and ability to navigate ambiguity.
Design of Experiment (DoE) is a plus
GMP experiences is a plus
