SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Technology Director is an expert in IT development, delivery and operations. The position entails looking at the applications and services holistically providing an integrated framework based on business rules for Amtrak's Stations, Facilities, Properties, and Accessibility (SFPA), known as Real Estate, Department. This role will serve as a senior individual contributor to provide technical leadership on a variety of projects aligned to Real Estate Digital Transformation. While there are no direct reports, the role will provide leadership to in house and vendor resources, serving as Tech Lead on various projects.
Daily tasks include leading multiple work streams across associated platforms creating applications and services serving specific Amtrak domains such as Lease Management and Administration, Space Management, Building Automation, Facilities and Building Management, Sustainability Asset Management integration, Financial ERP system integration, and 3rd Party Access and Agreements. The role requires this leader to define the application design and delivery adhering to a Service Oriented Architecture paradigm, so that different components work seamlessly. It also requires laying the foundation of a commerce platform which can scale to meet the requirements of Amtrak across different business functions.
The Technology Director works on major programs providing subject matter expertise and technical direction and is also responsible for systems analysis, systems landscape dependency mapping, design, development, integration, and enhancement. The role works closely with customers, business analysts and team members to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions. These solutions must be aligned with business and IT strategies and are in compliance with the organizations architectural standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Works on programs that may span a broad range of systems. Requires expertise in multiple technology domains and possesses an increased level of business knowledge.
Leads development team in technical design and implementation, ensuring the end results meet the business requirements.
Coordinates/leads development efforts among multiple technical teams, ensuring that technical efforts are aligned with the planned design
Drives the development of services to be exposed as APIs leveraging management platform.
Leads the development work streams responsible for creating compliant platforms.
Coordinates between technical and functional teams as well as with project management, and solves complex technical problems inhibiting project progress or success.
Organizes and documents technical requirements. Creates technical design specifications and assists in sizing technical requirements.
Works with customers to develop and analyze application packages and tools and determine optimum functionality requirements to meet those needs. Evaluates new application packages and tools.
Provides multiple recommendations for the solutions.
Evaluates existing applications and platforms and provides recommendations for system enhancements by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of modifications. Participates on teams that outline the process and scope out the improvements that can be realized through the application solution.
Implements integration plans. Interfaces with testing teams to incorporate plans into integration testing process.
Defines, develops or modifies software application modules or enterprise wide software systems using disciplined development processes. Identifies better sources of data feeds and interfaces with architects to ensure their feasibility with corporate data warehouse, when needed.
Adheres to quality standards and procedures. Reviews modules for quality assurance and checks compliance with application architecture standards and SLAs. May assist in defining development guidelines and standards to be utilized in software development/integration.
Provides technical leadership coaching and mentoring to team members. Provides technical guidance or system process expertise. Develops reports and presentations for senior management, as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or business management or equivalent work experience
10 to 12 years of relevant technical experience in a leadership or a Subject Matter Expert capacity in Real Esate Technology, Integrated Workplacement Management Systems, and/or Computer Aided Facilities Management.
Extensive experience programming and/or systems analysis experience. Have a broad level of understanding surrounding information systems and application architecture standards.
Extensive experience in design, development and operation of internet scale web applications leveraging IaaS / PaaS / SaaS delivery models.
Experience in API Engineering for both REST and SOAP based services.
Strong object oriented programming skills preferably in Java / J2EE, Spring, Hibernate
Ability to work well under deadlines and in a flexible environment.
Strong understanding of Service Oriented Architecture tenets, and N tier architecture deployments models when it comes to deploying against cloud based platforms.
Must have leadership skills, experience/in-depth knowledge of business operations and systems requirements processes including ability to measure short- and long-term business goals.
Must possess the ability to utilize adaptable communication skills to effectively translate between technical and business language.
Must possess the skill to educate project team members on business unit goals and objectives and educate the business on the value of information technology.
Ability to identify, propose and oversee the execution of business solutions as well as interpret
documents communicating business needs and requirements.
Must possess the skill to assess the client needs through direct interaction, and identify opportunities to develop the business through effective use of technology.
