VP- Commercial Insurance Industry Practice Leader New York City

We are looking for a strategic and dynamic leader to partner with the New York City Commercial Insurance Manager, New York City Deputy Commercial Insurance Manager, and the New York City Branch Manager, and distribution management to profitably grow the New York City Commercial Insurance Industry Practices.








Responsibilities:




The total premium for Commercial Insurance for the New York City Branch is $475M of which this individual will have direct responsibility for approximately $170M. This individual will have direct accountability for several industry practices, including Technology, Life Sciences, Entertainment, and Financial Institutions which includes the operations and results for the business groups, driving new business production and the retention efforts for the assigned groups. They will also work directly with the New York City Commercial Insurance Manager in managing the New York City Industry Practice Business Plan. In addition, the Commercial Insurance Industry Practice Leader will have a matrix reporting relationship to the Deputy CI Manager for forecasting and planning.




This Manager is responsible for hiring, retention, performance management, compensation and technical training and coaching and development for multiline underwriting staff. The Manager is also responsible for advancing the sales and marketing expertise of the local Commercial Insurance Industry Practice P&C team. Specific responsibilities include:




P&L - Accountability (premium, profitability, growth, retention, and expense plans/results)




Portfolio Management/LOB - Direct profit and loss responsibility for field (middle market) business; coordination, agency management, and production responsibility across Commercial Insurance P&C product portfolio. Coordination and collaboration with the P&C Underwriting Center in Whitehouse Station.




Underwriting Strategy Execution - Manages execution of assigned groups strategies.




Technical UW/Referral Resource - In collaboration with Product, serves as technical resource for referrals and underwriting authority. Point of contact for branch risks which fall outside of field authority; coordinate efforts with Home Office/Product and Segment leaders.




Quality Assurance - Monitors underwriting quality/works with self-audit lead.




Marketplace Focus - Develop opportunities particular to the marketplace and provide customized approaches on market conditions and agency needs.




Marketing Strategy and Execution - Works closely with Field Operations & the New York City Commercial Insurance Manager on development and execution of marketing strategy and coordinates marketing and production activities within the New York City branch for the Commercial Insurance Industry Practices.




Business Development - Directs business development activities and provides guidance for implementing sales and/or product launches.




Producer Management: -Primary responsibility for managing regional/local producer plant; responsible for cohesive and consistent agency management strategies across assigned locations. Facilitates product education/appetite; serves as point person for key local producer relationships.




Staff Development and Staff Administration (including Performance Management and Compensation) Accountable for new hire onboarding, training, and developing, succession planning, culture of inclusion, coaching and mentoring and retention of staff.








Qualifications and Competencies:




Understanding of Middle Market Property & Casualty products and appetite with focus on industry practices, including Technology, Life Sciences, Financial Institutions, and Entertainment.




Minimum 10 years in the industry




Strong understanding of field distribution plant, including managing large multinational brokers




Strong people management skills




Strong technical/underwriting leadership skills to manage a team of multiline commercial underwriters
