About the Team
The Engineering Tools & Automation team is responsible for providing telemetry data and tools to Consumer Technology teams. The team provides solutions that enable customer experience monitoring, automated discovery of problems and root causes, and troubleshooting of complex problems in a high scale micro-services web based architecture.
About the Job
The Director will set the strategy and lead capabilities to advance observability technologies and practices across the Consumer Technology group. The vision is to provide monitoring as a service and managed as code so that instrumentation is provided automatically by the platform. The monitoring should not only provide metrics on technology health, but also collect customer experience data that helps Engineering teams detect and troubleshoot problems. The tools and approaches should be deployed and leveraged across all environments and shift left so problems are caught prior to reaching production.
Responsibilities and Day-to-Day View
Your team's mission is to help Engineering, Operations, and Product teams in Consumer Technologies observe the customer experience and reduce the time to recover from incidents. You will lead scrum teams that provide logging, metrics and traces across applications deployed in multiple cloud and on premise platforms.
Job responsibilities entail:
-Leading multiple scrum teams consisting of system and software engineers, architects, business analysts, scrum masters, and product managers
- Developing roadmaps for your Products by soliciting feedback from your internal customers
- Leading the strategic alignment of your team's roadmaps to Platform and Consumer Technology strategies and OKRs
- Reviewing team processes and technical solutions to help ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration with multiple systems and technologies
- Enforcing company policies, architecture guidelines and security compliance requirements
- Researching, analyzing and recommending new technologies, tools, and techniques to improve your team's services and OKRs
- Collaborate with your peers across a large organization with many cross functional and large enterprise wide initiatives to improve the customer experience
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred
Experience:
- Master's Degree or equivalent experience preferred
- 10+ years of progressive Engineering role experience
- 5+ years of leading and managing a team
- 5+ years of experience using observability technologies such as Dynatrace, ElasticSearch, Kibana, Logstash, Quantum Metrics, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalents
- Extensive engineering experience with higher scale web sites
- Extensive experience with Kubernetes and public cloud platforms
- Experience with Agile Methodology
- Strong executive communication skills: ability to communicate information and ideas to individuals and teams in an articulate, focused, and compelling way
- Strong collaborator with teams and inspire them to do their best
- Self starter and team motivator who isn't ever satisfied and continually curious
- Product thinker who focuses on customer satisfaction
