Role Description
As the Business Data Science Director/Grp Manager on our U.S. Personal Banking Analytics (USPBA) team, you will lead a team providing analytics and technical support for answering data-driven questions that drive decision making. You will set the direction for applying advanced data science techniques towards our vast internal customer data, external data sources, and other relevant internal data sources. You will be an expert in advanced data science techniques, such as machine learning, optical character recognition, and deeper academic disciplines. You love statistics and statistical modeling and are great at explaining why these techniques can help USCB meet its business challenges.
You will lead a team of Data Scientists in identifying areas of opportunity and effectively communicate your findings to others on your team and leadership. You will the closet partner to an Analytics lead who acts as our business partner with senior business stakeholders and will lead our teams efforts in understanding their evolving requirements, translating those requirements to the rest of the team, coaching junior Data Scientists on the team, and sharing findings with partners that are innovative, insightful, and drive decision making.
As a senior member of our team, you will be accountable for the delivery of a full range of data science services to one or more sub-businesses within US Personal Banking. That will mean that you will set the strategy for data science in that area, ensuring that it meets related business and analytics goals while meeting USPBAs mission to be a critical partner in shaping the quantum leap of customer intelligence across USPB.
You will know your Data Science areas, data sources, and partner business inside and out and will have the relationship skills to be seen as critical to their success. You will be involved in short- to medium-term planning for your team and will contribute to the planning of your partner sub-business and USPBA overall. This will include planning for resources, budget, policy formulation and planning. And you will be responsible for a team (or multiple teams), including day-to-day management of team members, performance evaluations, compensation, hiring, budget approvals, and anything else related to people management activities at Citi.
Some days, youll help drive your team towards more in-depth understanding of the business impact of their work or coach them to learn new technical or soft skills. On other days, youll handle emerging business issues and will negotiate with senior members of the business on what is the right thing to do for our Customers, Regulators, and for Citi.
On any given day, you will be challenged by three types of work Innovation, Business Intelligence and Data Management and you will be responsible for:
Creating a shared service layer among back-office systems that allows real-time data synchronization and a single view of all LoBs
Top-notch data science acumen you know which advanced technique to use when and can explain why to those of advanced to novice understandings of data science
Top-notch written and oral communication and influence skills. Excellent storytelling abilities and the ability to present complicated information in small or large groups are key to success
Coaching junior colleagues on how to think like someone in the C-Suite so decision makers can quickly understand the teams work
You must be a strong program leader and be able to organize, prioritize and coordinate work streams to achieve business goals.
Developing and articulating an analytical framework to solve business challenges to various audiences
Extract actionable insights based on advanced analysis of customer behavior
Lead and develop the members of your team, especially around developing sound analytical approach to solve business problems
Drive innovative thinking about leveraging new tools/technologies/data science methods to transform the analytical and data science capabilities of the organization
Understand regulatory implications and work with others to develop strategies, technical solutions, or models to mitigate any issues
Make sure team is following regulatory and controls requirements throughout the analytical processes
Cross-functional leadership (communication, change management, and influencing) to drive stakeholders towards common goal
Ability to leverage industry best practices, navigate and leverage internal relationships and become the key point of contact to ensure delivery and adoption
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Our ideal candidate will have:
15+ years of experience
Experience in financial services preferred
Bachelors Degree Required.
A Masters or Ph.D. in statistics, engineering, mathematics, data science, or other technical discipline Preferred.
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
