Position Summary:
Responsible for achieving expert overall knowledge of Samsung's major competitors, including pricing, roadmaps, and segmentation models for the entire handset and consumer electronics market. To succeed, the incumbent will have to identify and leverage all possible information sources, both internal and external. Provide professional analytical support in the collection, evaluation, and reporting of the competitive actions of major competitors including pricing, and roadmaps. Strive to become the expert on our customers, the carriers, as well as on the overall handset market. Incumbent will also develop handset analysis for the overall market, our competitors, and our customers. Problems and issues faced are vague, but may be recognizable based on past experiences. Job has higher autonomy to direct some level of reasoning and logical analyses in order to form solutions to problems.


Role and Responsibilities


Duties and Responsibilities
Functions as overall handset market expert of Samsung's major competitors. Identifies and cultivates external sources, including Gartner and Yankee, to better understand the market and our competition. Collect, analyze, and report on the competitive actions of major competitors including pricing, and roadmaps, etc. Work with internal and external sources to gather and organize competitive data. Work with carrier product teams to understand the wireless carrier strategies, new technology and service roll-outs to provide tactical and strategic level product/roadmap recommendations. Identify and cultivate external sources, including market research, to better understand the market and our competition. Develop segmentation and pricing models for the overall market, our competitors and our customers. Develop weekly/monthly competitive updates to management and sales. Provide limited sales support for strategic bids. Prepare competitive analyses on an ongoing basis. Prepare white papers and strategic alerts for management and to product owners. Support channel marketing teams with product positioning and messaging.


Background and Experience

Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of directly related experience is required. Prior experience in Mobile and consumer electronics product management and business planning fields. Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills required. Demonstrated ability to lead virtual teams in performance improvement projects. Experience developing marketing and sales presentations using a variety of PC applications.

Physical/Mental Demands and Conditions

Work is generally performed in an office environment. Operate a computer keyboard and view a video display terminal between 50% - 95% of work time, including prolonged periods of time. Requires considerable (90%+) work utilizing high visual acuity/detail, numeric/character distinction, and moderate hand/finger dexterity. The movement and transportation of equipment, most of the time is under 25 pounds. Performs work under time schedules and stress which are normally periodic or cyclical, including time sensitive deadlines, intellectual challenge, some language barriers, and project management deadlines. Machines, tools, equipment, and work aids include printers, copiers, faxes, and other equipment commonly associated with an office work area. May require working additional hours beyond normal schedule. Travel varies depending on position. Consistently demonstrates a commitment to policies and procedures, including but not limited to, attendance, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and ethical responsibilities.
