Job Purpose:
The Systems Engineer is the most senior technical resource in the Infrastructure & Operations organization. This role will be accountable for enterprise-wide implementation, maintenance, and administration of MHAs information systems. This is achieved by planning, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems & infrastructure. The incumbent in this role will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. The Systems Engineer provides guidance and expertise to the IT Leadership team on topics including the development of best practices in a variety of areas across the enterprise as required. Acts as a team leader and mentor which provides guidance to colleagues with less experience in systems support, networking, installations, and troubleshooting. Solves problems through analysis of possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.The individual in this role is highly proficient within discipline and contributes to organizational objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage and supports MHAs Windows (Active Directory, Group Policy, etc.) infrastructure, VMware vSphere infrastructure, Citrix environment and physical servers
Administer, secure, and support the organizations cloud environments, including (but not limited to) Office 365, Microsoft Azure, and 3rd party MHA Cloud platforms
Plans and advises team members and IT leadership on the support, capacity planning, and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
Collaborate with the Infrastructure & Operations staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Design and deploy new physical and virtual servers, per business and IT requirements
Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.
Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
Design and perform server audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with MHAs disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
Oversee in the repair of any hardware issues with vendors and coordination with MHA business
Oversee the upgrading and patching of MHA applications and client/server information systems.
Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
Assume technical leadership role in problem resolution and root cause analysis.
Serve as escalation point for issues that cannot be resolved by other support tiers or other teams support personnel.
Ability to lead and execute small to medium sized projects independently with a previous track record of success.
Manage MHAs various instrumentation software packages such as PRTG and Netwrix (preferred)
Interface with multiple departments as the subject matter expert resource to assess, recommend, project plan, and implement technology solutions in support of business initiatives
Proactively monitor and report on overall technology service performance and take action to correct deficiencies in monitoring and controlling the quality of individual network services
Create and maintain technical documentation including systems integrations diagrams, network design diagrams, operational procedures, knowledge base documents, disaster recovery plans and training documentation
Minimum Qualifications & Competencies:
Experience working as an IT Systems Engineer role in the life sciences space or large enterprise environment 5-7 years of systems engineering experience (relevant certifications preferred such as MCSE,
Bachelors degree in information technology or Computer Science or closely related field or equivalent work experience
Ability to manage and maintain multi-tier technical architectures, consisting of application servers, web servers, load balancers, databases, storage, and networking components
Expert knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and related services
Sophisticated knowledge of virtualization infrastructure, especially VMware vSphere/VCenter
Superior understanding of administration of Microsoft cloud services (Office 365, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Teams, etc.)
Advanced Experience in the design, implementation, and support of public cloud infrastructure, preferably Microsoft Azure, in a production environment
Microsoft Azure experience, including Azure Active Directory, deploying Azure VM templates and managing Azure VMs, virtual networks, storage, Azure Site Recovery, and other Azure services (Certifications preferred)
Capability with containerization technologies such as Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), serverless Kubernetes, and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
Experience with PowerShell scripting, or other automation tools
Advanced knowledge of core networking concepts including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, routers, switches, firewalls, load balancing, VLAN segmentation, DMZ, LAN/WAN, Routing, DMARC, etc.
Advanced knowledge of Citrix Duo & XenApps including administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Developing and implementing cybersecurity measures and remediation strategies
Excellent understanding of Backup solutions, archival, and enterprise storage solutions
Demonstrate a customer service-oriented attitude, work well under pressure, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills
Extensive wireless familiarity supporting Cisco, Cisco Meraki, or other wireless technologies
Understanding of firewall technologies and the ability to make changes effectively (Palo Alto preferred)
Participate in off hours on call support rotation
Skill using PowerShell or equivalent scripting tools
Understanding and experience with patch/vulnerability remediation
