Role: Underwriting Assistant

The Role:

Support the Underwriters with Property, Casualty, Inland Marine, Commercial Auto and Homeowners business written via Binding authorities issues to a network of MGAs


Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain Underwriting files

  • Assist in preparation of all necessary contract documentation for referral, new and renewal business.

  • Assist with the maintenance of Underwriting manuals and other underwriting materials under direction of the Underwriting team.

  • Analyze monthly Bordereau reports. This includes identifying risks outside contract guidelines and working with the MGAs to rectify.

  • Conduct internal Underwriting File Audits and produce reports where necessary.

  • Monitoring and the underwriters workloads and reporting to ensure all risk records are completed within the time frame within the underwriting guidelines.

  • Monitor the units income position

  • Weekly/ monthly/ annual reporting including preparing data for weekly and divisional meeting, reinsurance and any ad hoc management reporting requests.

  • Maintain Underwriting team meeting agendas, minutes and action point follow-up.

  • Collaborate with Actuary, Claims Manager and IT Manager in ongoing testing of new rating software.

  • Manage various short and long term projects as assigned by Senior Underwriters.

  • Responsible for administrative duties as needed to assist the Underwriting department.

    4. Wildfire monitoring and filing update reports.

    5. Filling and reviewing inspections.

    6. ERX rate project

    8. KYC and BDX

    9. Sprinkler and Special Acceptance (ArchRe)



Essential Skills & Experience:

  • A small amount of Insurance experience is preferable but not essential

  • High level of understanding of Excel including tasks such as pivot tables Proficiency in basic mathematical skill, including the ability to compute ratios and percentages

  • Ability to interpret and create graphs and tables from large volumes of data

  • Feel confident in ability to articulate findings in writing and in person both internally and externally

  • Interpret written guidelines for Underwriting rules and apply to real life scenarios

  • Strong communication skills

  • Organized, methodical quick thinker.

  • Demonstrable problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to work and learn with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment

  • Have accountability for assigned tasks

  • Desire to expand knowledge within the industry via professional exams
