The Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine is looking for a candidate to fill a unique scientist position at the intersection of cutting-edge technology development and medicine. The institute bridges the University of Washington, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Childrens Hospital. The Advanced Technology Lab (BAT-lab) is a new entity within this institute at the University of Washington. The mission of the Advanced Technology Lab is making cutting-edge -omics technologies, including many developed by labs at the member institutions, broadly available to the Institutes research community.
Position purpose:
We seek an individual with strong cellular and molecular biology skills for the Advanced Technology Lab at the Brotman Baty Institute. The scientist will be responsible for:
1) Developing and implementing protocols to prepare nuclei suspensions for single cell RNA and chromatin profiling from a diverse set of human and model organism tissues.
2) Performing single cell molecular profiling experiments
Duties & Responsibilities:
Scientific Operations (70%):
Optimize and implement protocols to prepare single nuclei suspensions from tissue
Perform single cell molecular profiling experiments
Perform quality control assays on incoming samples
Project Management (20%)
Keep BAT-lab project management tools up to date to integrate with production schedule
Sample organization and management
Collaboration (10%):
Meet with collaborators to learn and incorporate best practices for single nuclei preps and single cell protocols
Attend lab meetings
Contribute data for figures, publications, reports, and presentations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in molecular biology, cellular biology, genetics or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
3 months to 1 year of professional or academic experience in cell or molecular biology. This can be at the undergraduate level. We are seeking candidates that are eager to learn new skills as part of the single cell team.
Candidate should have an outstanding academic and professional track record.
Candidate should be an innovative and analytical thinker with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Must be highly disciplined and organized.
Successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and enthusiastic about taking a hands-on approach to collaborative scientific discovery efforts.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
Experience in cell or molecular biology, specifically Illumina sequencing, RT-qPCR or tissue preparation.
